This is a wood sculpture submitted Becky Roth for my Introduction Psychology course. Becky attended a Qi Gong presentation by Gary Paruszkiewicz, C.S.M.E. from Stress Management Workshops, Inc. at Barnes & Nobles for Extra Credit.
Becky explains through this sculpture the following:
"Life's
energy/work development" was the definition given by the handout for
Qi Gong. The idea of Qi Gong is to bring the body, mind and essence together
as one. The goal is to bring your whole body into complete balance.
You achieve this through meditation, deep breathing, and stretching exercise.
First, by deep breathing, thus ridding your body of harmful toxins. Second,
by meditation which focuses on breathing, for the relaxation of
the innerself. Last, by stretching to relieve the stess from the tighten
muscles, thus relieving the outer body.
My figure represents
a body in balance. The three heads symbolize the mind, body and essence
coming together. The arms with hands pointed down is "the deer"
a stretch that was taught to us. The teeter-totter symbolizes
balance. The first color I have chosen is brown for the base, which is an
excellent foundation color. The color of the body is all white which represents
pure energy, which we pull from the surrounding universe in meditation.
I feel it is very important to find out what makes you feel at one with
yourself. For all things come about if you know yourself. Qi Gong is a great
way to balance and relieve stress."
